If the compass card says 273 is west, that means the compass reads 273 when you are actually flying 270. Do not get too carried away with re-setting the dg. If it agrees within 5 degrees or so of your compass in level unaccelerated flight, you are in pretty good shape.

I'm thinking about getting ForeFlight Basic and wanted to test it out tomorrow. I had a quick question regarding the flight planning part of it.
When I add my route it'll give me each leg that I want to fly. And then it'll give me my heading.
Let's say over the HDG tab it says 155*M. Does that mean I fly a 155 degree heading in the plane? Does that take into account variation and the wind correction angle?
And I also see that it'll keep track of how much fuel I have left?
I am thinking I just want to go with the Basic for now since I won't be flying much over the coming winter. I'm particularly wanting to try and find something that takes away a lot of the pencil and paper manual number crunching, and to also clean up the cockpit a little bit.
I bought a Dual Electronics XGPS150A for my iPad so I'll be testing that out as well. My flight instructor had one so I went off of that recommendation and seeing it in use.
